I never heard of Hunter S. Thompson until i took the non-fiction class at CSI. I was never a reader but for some reason Thompson caught my attention, maybe because he is so out spoken and blunt with his words. I admire the fact that he is so detailed it helps the reader get a better understanding. I love how he starts off most of his stories so in detail like in Hell's Angels he starts off," California, Labor Day weekend...early, with ocean fog still in the streets, outlaw motorcyclists, wearing chains, shades and greasy Levis roll out from damp garages". I feel like when he is telling the story, he makes you part of the story. I can't say that about alot of authors. My favorite book of his is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, that has to be the funniest, straight foward, eye opeing wow book. He talks about his journey to Las Vegas as he is getting high and drinking and trying all these crazy drugs. Once again i love how he starts off the beggining of the book "We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold". He is just the realist guy and whats crazy is he is not afraid to put it down on paper. He takes risks with his writting and thats why now hes a well known writter and the man who came up with Gonzo Journalism. I wish more authors would be like him because than i would enjoy reading more books.
