My choice of author that i would like to write about is Thomas DeQuincey, Confessions of an English opium eater. Thomas was a English essayist who got addicted to opium. I really admire the fact that he admit he had an addiction and also wrote about all his feeling about opium, it takes a person alot to confess with themselves they are addicted to a drug. In my life i knew alot of people who have became addicts of some sort of drug. Thomas chose opium, i love to hear peoples stories on how they got addicted and then how they stopped. It gives me more of a reason not to try it, because all you need is that one time and you can be addicted. Thomas had alot of excuses to why he would take opium like how it gave him "exquisite pleasure" (pg. 1 line 27). He also suffered from stomach problems when he was he age of 28. Maybe the depressing part of his child hood and how his father died when he was 7 had something to do with him taking opium. Thomas wasn't a dumb kid, he was able to write in Greek, he took care of four guardians. I think Thomas grew up fast for his age and part of him taking opium could of been because of that. So really it doesn't mean if your smart or poor or rich anyone could get addicted, drugs don't discriminate and Thomas was addicted to opium.
